Well, for some reason Blogger said I had conflicting edits on my last attempt at this, so I lost it all. Let me try again.
This happened last night. The kids were watching Garfield The Movie. You know, the one where Garfield is CGI and voiced by Bill Murray.
Anyway, in the movie, Garfield has this bed. It is pretty sweet and looks like a human bed with wood frame, etc. It is just smaller and built for Garfield.
Lauryn really liked it, so said to Heather, "If Twilight ever gets bigger and starts talking, we should get him a bed like that." Agreed.
However, I am praying that he never starts talking, because I am sure it is an expensive bed, and he never sleeps in the "pretty sweet" bed we have for him now.

Lauryn: I Don't Give Up
So, this comes from Heather. She had driven the kids home and along the way, Lauryn had dropped a little "jazzy band" and it fell behind the seat. When they got home, Lauryn was very distraught as she could not find the one that had fallen.
Heather and Lauryn went to the back of the van and pulled a few things out and Heather said, "Lauryn, I can't find it." Lauryn responded, "Keep looking, it's very important." Finally, Lauryn said "We need to pull everything out of the van." Heather was not excited about the prospect of having to do that and told Lauryn so.
Lauryn responded, "Mom, it's very special to me. And I don't give up on things that are special to me. So I'm asking you, not to give up."
That's right, that is exactly how she said it. Needless to say, I like her future as a motivational speaker.

Brenan: Ayoutoo
When you tell Brenan you love him, you will get a response much like this: "Ayoutoo." Which as anyone knows, means, I love you too. It is funny, because we'll take the time to say each word one at a time as well, and he says them great and then when we say, I love you Brenan, he says again "Ayoutoo!"
Brenan: It's Soccer
Well, the night was winding down, and it was time for the kids to get their pajamas on and get ready for bed. Of course, Devin invited Lauryn to play some soccer [inside in the family room] and then Brenan. Heather said, "It's time to get your pajamas on." Brenan turned around to where Heather was and said "It's soccer. Okay." and then carried on his way to join the fun. If you've ever heard him say one of his sentences followed by "okay", you'll know how cute and adorable this was. Priceless.

Brenan: Help
Lauryn came into our room last night and said she had walked wrong on her foot, so it was hurting. She was limping and tears were welling up in her eyes.
Brenan walked over to me, as I was brushing my teeth and said "Bead". He said it a few times and so I though maybe he wanted to brush his teeth too. I got his toothbrush out and gave it to him. He went into our closet and came out with some band-aids. He wanted to help Lauryn feel better, so he got some "Beads" (band-aids).
He took it out to Heather and said "Help."

Devin: Down Payment
Devin, Heather and Lauryn all went to see "Despicable Me" on Saturday at the movie theatre. As they were leaving the movie, Heather saw a penny. She said "Hey, a penny!" and I think she went to pick it up. Devin responded "Great mom, now you can put a down payment on a pack of gum."
A little bit later, he said "Mom, what's a down payment?"

Brenan: Dec Ku Mah
This is not a one time phrase, but a part of Brenan's vernacular.
He uses this when he has asked for something and it is given too him by his mom. The translation is "Thank You Mom."
It is just cute in it's own way. He is such a sweet kid, and just has so much energy, especially on Sunday's at church, that it can often frazzle the nerves. But when you just sit back and listen to the kid, he has tons to say. I don't understand much of it, but bits and pieces are starting to be discernible and it makes me happy to hear him say, "Dec Ku Mah".

Lauryn: Peaceful
The other day, as I was checking my email on the computer downstairs, Lauryn walked down and sat in the chair behind me. She sat there for a couple of minutes and then said, "Dad, it's very quiet down here." I replied that it was. Then she said, "and it's very peaceful too." Not that it wasn't but it was just so cute to me.
So often, our children say things that seem so beyond their years. To me, Lauryn spoke beyond her years that night.
And, it was very peaceful.

Devin: You've Been With Her
So, here is a classic example of Devin logic.
He cracks me up. He was talking to his uncle Trevor one day, who is single. Trevor has a condo that he purchased, and had a roommate for awhile. She was female and also single. I don't know how they got on the topic, but Devin said, "Why don't you marry your roommate. You've been with her for like a year!"

Lauryn: Non-fiction is real
This is another story from this week, and it ties right into the last entry for Lauryn. Heather and Devin were talking about a book report that he is supposed to be working on. Devin said, "non-fiction or fiction". Heather, told him he was exactly right.
Lauryn then said matter of factly "Fiction is not real. Non-fiction is real". Heather said that she was amazed, because that concept took her quite a while to learn. In looking back, I think it took me some time to pick that up as well.
Kids are just advancing so much more quickly than we did!

Lauryn: Not a story
We were trying to leave the house this morning, since we carpool. We were a few minutes behind, and we like to say a family prayer before we depart on our 25 minute journey. So, Lauryn starts to tell a story about her teacher, Ms. Romero.
I interupted and said, Lauryn, let's say our prayers first and then you can tell us your story. Lauryn piped up, "it's not a story, it's real from yesterday".
As you can gather, Lauryn's understanding is that if someone is telling you a story, it is not real, but rather a figment of their mind.

Devin: Friends in high places . . .
WARNING: IF YOU ARE PREPARING TO EAT AND HAVE A WEAK STOMACH, COME BACK LATER.
This is another Devin quote. I am sure that he is going to kill me one of these days, because he says we are embarassing him by sharing these. But . . . they are just too good not to share! So, he was probably 2-3 years old at the time and was on his way to somewhere with Heather. Unfortunately, I have no idea where.
They had pulled up and Heather got out to get Devin out of his car seat. I am probably going to kill the details of the moment, but basically he had a little booger there, so Heather, being the loving mother that she is picked it for him and said let me see up there. Heather said, "Whoa, you have a bunch of boogers up there." Devin responded by saying, "Yeah, he had friends".
Yes, it is a little gross, and if you are getting ready to eat, I apologize.

Lauryn: Hope that works out for you . . .
This little gem comes via third hand knowledge. Heather (my wife) told me that she was working out in the back yard on this past Saturday. Her birthday was the next day (May 2nd). Lauryn was out in the back yard with her and they were pulling weeds. This is an unfortunately large task of our back yard, especially with the massive amount of wind we get, which I am confident carries weed spawn from hundreds of miles away, and our back yard tends to be a primary landing zone.
Anyway, Heather looked at Lauryn and said, "Do you want to know what my birthday wish is?" Lauryn of course wanted to know. Heather told her "I wish we had no more weeds!"
Lauryn gave her a little look and said "Hope that works out for you mom."
The wisdom there is almost too great to comprehend. We all know that Heather's wish is just a wish, but for a 5 1/2 year old to be able to recognize that this is not likely is, in my humble opinion, incredible.
They never cease to amaze me.

Devin: Boobs . . .
The title of this post probably sounds a bit more juvenile that it really is. We were watching AFV (America's Funniest Vidoes), which is a tradition in our family. A little bit off the subject, they spent a whole segment on videos from Japan. Seems like they may be leaning toward a more whole world approach. I think they could still keep the AFV and just change it to All Funny Videos. Anyway . . .
So, in one segment they were showing some attractions at Disney World (grand prize). They had this belly dancer from the Morrocan themed area. She was dancing around and had those little things on her fingers (they look kind of like little mini simbals). Heather commented, "She's wearing a wig." She continued, "and those aren't real."
I of course, knew what she was talking about, so said "What, you mean the little metal things on her fingers?" I thought I was being pretty funny.
All of the sudden, Devin pipes in "the boobs!"
I dont' think this really needs to be said, but it caught us by surprise. I guess it really shouldn't, since he has completed his 5th grade maturation program already. It's just hard for a parent to realize that there once little boy is growing up and learning and hearing about things that you would rather it take another 10-12 years to find out about.

Devin: Mom, I love you but . . .
Well, I wanted to make sure that on day one, all of the kids had at least one quote to their name. This one is from Devin, and happened when he was maybe 4 or 5 years old. He and Heather were walking through a store and were coming into the lingerie section. Now, all men know that this generally makes us a little uncomfortable.
Even at his tender age, Devin recognized the perils of this region of the store. As they entered the bra section, Devin quickly covered his eyes and said, "Mom, I love you, but I don't want to know what you're made of".
Obviously as he gets a little older his attitudes regarding these matters will change, but for now, and hopefully until he is at least 25, this is the attitude I prefer.

Brenan: Not me . . .
A couple of weeks ago, while I was home at night watching the kids, it was time to get them off to bed. We were downstairs in the office, and the kids were playing in this little play tent that Brenan had gotten as a gift.
Now Brenan, who is a man of many words (most of which you cannot understand right now) is very persitent when he sets his mind to something. He was crawling in the tent and I asked "Okay, is everyone ready to go upstairs and go to bed?"
Brenan, without missing a beat, stuck his head back out of the tent door and said, clear as day, "No, not me!" I have to admit, it was the cutest thing I'd ever heard come out of his mouth. So . . . I gave them 10 more minutes of play time.

Lauryn: Just a nap . . .
Okay, so I am starting yet another blog. This one has a lot of source material though. I decided to share a blog about the things that my children say. Devin, Lauryn and Brenan are full of words beyond their little years, and I decided that everyone should be able to benefit from their use of the English language.
So, this morning, we had to wake Lauryn up to get her ready to go to school. She was sleeping in the recliner in our bedroom and had been there all night, so 8+ hours. When Heather woke her up, she said, "mom, that was just a nap to me."
Heather and I realized the truth of that statement, as I am sure many of us often awake in the morning and think to ourselves that our night of sleep, was really just a nap. Oftentimes, we just need that additional hour or two and we'd be fine.
